About Mrs. Symons
Mrs. Symons is the Hotels & Resorts Instructor and she is beginning her fifth year as a teacher here at CVCC. Prior to coming to CVCC she taught Family and Consumer Science classes in a neightboring school system. She received her BA from Ohio University and her MA from Kent State University. In each of her classes, Mrs. Symons uses direct instruction and real-life experiences to provide students with the skills they need to pursue a successful career in the hospitality and services industry. Below is a brief program description for Mrs. Symons' courses.
HOTELS & RESORTS
Credit: 3.5 elective per year
This program provides students needing entry-level skills and more time for skill acquisition with practical work experience leading to entry-level positions in hotels, motels, hospitals, bed & breakfasts, nursing homes, restaurants and other hospitality and service industries. Through direct instruction and community-based work projects students learn the fundamentals of cooking & baking, sanitation, banquet setup and clearing, laundry & linen care, room maintenance, security and more. Also emphasized are employability skills, such as work ethic, accountability, decision-making, following directions, punctuality, teamwork, and proper attire. Students will have the opportunity to earn the Teen Restaurant OSHA Certification. Counselor recommendation is required for admission to this program.
