Mr. Van Tilburg has been the Media Technology Instructor here at CVCC since 2004. He also teaches English Language Arts to the Media Technology students. In Media Tech students use professional equipment like Final Cut Pro for video editing, the complete Adobe CS5 suite, Pro Tools for audio recording and mixing, JVC GY-HM100U high definition and Panasonic DVX100A standard definition cameras to produce real world projects (
CLICK HERE to see samples of student work). They take many field trips to places like WKYC-TV3 and Fox 8, EDR Media, Ante Up Audio and Lava Room Recording, as well as Jacobs Field, Quicken Loans Arena and Browns Stadium (

Our students have done internships and job shadowing with The Greater Cleveland Film Commission, WKYC-TV3, WVIZ, Creative Technology, Classic Worldwide Productions, WTAM Radio, and WKNR Radio. In each of his classes, Mr. Van Tilburg uses direct instruction and real-life experiences to provide students with the skills they need to pursue a successful career in any many areas of Media Technology and Journalism. MEDIA TECHNOLOGY •Tech Prep

Year One – 1.0 English, 2.5 elective;
Year Two – 1.0 English, 2.5 elective
In Media Technology students develop creative skills, acquire an understanding of video and audio production technology and learn to create audio and visual content for broadcast, internet and interactive multimedia applications. The instructional focus is on the technical aspects of production, including technical terminology, operation of production and editing equipment, “re-purposing” content from one medium to another, framing and selecting shots, lighting, writing, editing and story-boarding. Students will engage in real-world application projects such as commercials, music videos, short films, animation, broadcast journalism, documentary films, graphics creation, music recording and mixing and will prepare a portfolio (DVD and website) to demonstrate their accomplishments to clients or colleges.
