About Mrs. Ellis
Mrs. Ellis has worked at CVCC since 2004. She was initially employed at CVCC as an Adult Ed instructor for the State Tested Nursing Assistant program. From 2005 to 2009 Mrs. Ellis assisted in the High School Health Careers program and was hired full time in 2009. Mrs. Ellis received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Duke University and her Master of Science degree in the nursing program from The Ohio State University in 1982. She has worked in a variety of health care settings including cardiothoracic nursing, surgical intensive care, nutritional support, and adult practitioner care. Her last 17 years have been spent in long-term care and this has provided her with the credentials to teach and coordinate the programs for CVCC. Mrs. Ellis is also a State Evaluator for D&S Diversified Technologies, the company that was selected by the Ohio Department of Health to evaluate students who have completed the State Tested Nursing Asssistant program
In each of her classes, Mrs. Ellis brings real-life experiences to provide students with the skills and knowledge they need to pursue a successful career in the health care industry.
Below is a brief program description for Mrs. Ellis' courses:
Year Two-- Medical Technology Option: 3.5 elective
Health Careers students learn basic knowledge that may be utilized in a variety of occupations in the medical field. In Year 1, all students take a core curriculum which includes Vital Signs, Infection Control, Safety, Medical Terminology, as well as Anatomy and Physiology. In Year 2, students are recommended for either Pre-Nursing (State-Tested Nurse Assistant) or Medical Technology (Phlebotomist/EKG Technician).
Hands on Clinical Rotations take place at local healthcare facilities.
Prerequisites for the course include grades of C or better in Algebra I and Biology, a GPA of at least 2.0 and an interview with the instructors prior to admission.
