Welcome to Cuyahoga Valley Career Center’s Job Training Program (JTP) for the 2011-2012 school year.  JTP is a work force development, community based career program.  Students participate by seeking, obtaining, and maintaining employment in their communities.  Job Training students do not meet for classes on the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center Campus.  As your Job Training instructor, my goal is to support you as you begin and advance in community employment.  When you obtain employment, we use a process of employer/teacher and student self-evaluation that will position you to reach goals, pursue opportunities, and build a solid work record. At times non-paid internships and trial work experiences may serve as a pathway to obtain paid community employment.  Job Training may also assist you connect with adult community agencies that provide services during and after your Job Training Program is complete.

Your JTP program provides opportunity to learn the values of responsibility, service to others, commitment to quality work, perseverance, and the pursuit of excellence.  These values and habits will help you succeed in employment both now and in the future.  As your instructor I will encourage you to match your abilities, interests, and skills with available employment opportunities.
Students enroll in JTP for a school year and may continue in subsequent years based on review with their IEP teams.  The JTP coordinator teaches students to build on their employment success, and to fully participate in their community as citizens.

I am in my 15th year as Cuyahoga Valley Career Center’s Job Training Coordinator.  I am grateful for the opportunity to support my students become productive workers. I love seeing my students succeed in community employment.  Prior to joining the CVCC community, I worked as a professor of special education, a group home director, and a private school principal.  I earned my PhD in Special Education form Kent State University in 1995.  I am happy that you have chosen CVCC’s Job Training Program to pursue your career path.
