About Mr. Niinisto

Mr. Niinisto is the Computer Aided Design Instructor and has been a teacher here at CVCC for more than five years. Mr. Niinisto has taught CAD/engineering related classes for 30 years.  In each of his classes, Mr. Niinisto uses direct instruction and real-life experiences to provide students with the skills they need to pursue a successful career using Computer Aided Design in industry. Below is a brief program description for Mr. Niinisto's courses.

COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN    •Tech Prep
Credit:  3.5 elective per year
OR
Year One – 1.0 Algebra II, 2.5 elective
Year Two – 1.0 Pre-Calculus, 2.5 elective
Computer Aided Design is a skill, key in the transmission of the ideas of engineers and architects into practical drawings needed to manufacture or build products.  In the first year, students learn the engineering principles necessary to produce technical drawings of machine parts, architectural plans, and solids modeling design of three-dimensional parts.  In the second year the emphasis is on applying these skills in project-based design, including mechanical assemblies, architectural models, civil/structural layouts and 3D pictorial renderings.

Students use Autocad, Solidworks, 3ds Max, ArchiCAD, Revit and Mastercam software to design machines, buildings, tools and industrial products.  This course helps prepare students for college studies in various engineering fields including mechanical design, architecture, facilities planning, urban design, landscape design, product and industrial design, interior design and automotive design to name a few or entry into a full-time position in industry in engineering design and drafting.

Qualified students can test for industry certification in mechanical and/or architectural drafting.  See link below.
